The Gulf and the Middle East don't need you... As if the western world was rape-free and totally not misogynistic, God bless us for being so ahead of everyone else.
Fuck you you fucking fuck face. Fucker. Fuck off….:)
UPDATE: So, why would I respond this way? I KNOW there is rape and misogyny everywhere, and it is something that NEEDS to be fought everywhere. HOWEVER, anywhere where the woman who is raped is sentenced to more jailtime than the person who did the raping, that is clearly and openly a place that is hostile to women, standing out in a world that can often be hostile to women. And, yes, the Gulf region of the Middle East IS a place I believe that most people should stay away from because being there is basically surrendering your human rights. I say this because I used to live in this region.
Of particular concern is the way LGBT’s are seen and how being gay can land you in prison. This case of a woman being thrown in jail for her own rape? NOT uncommon. In fact, it’s very common in that region, and people SHOULD know that.
There is no perfect place. There are issues everywhere. When it comes to where I currently live, the issue of racism towards First Nations people is a huge problem that needs to be tackled and the world should know about it. It is a harsh place to be native, and I fully admit that. Human rights know no borders and breaches of human rights should be called out anywhere and everywhere.
This particular case has me disgusted as I have often felt with the way the Gulf region conducts itself. I believe that part of the problem is the incredible influx of money so quickly for warping the region. Is Islam part of the issue? I am often openly critical of the religion, as I am all religions. Yes, I do believe it plays a part here for it demonizes women who have premarital sex or those who consume alcohol, which both played a role in the jailing of the poor woman in question. So, again, I am critical of the religion for the role it played here.
Overall, I do not see the wonderful, progressive ways of the Gulf region as this person who asked this question wishes to imply exists. It doesn’t. It’s completely false and would require a completely different blog post to explain. Already this is pretty long, eh?
And that is my explanation as to why I replied to this anonymous poster as I did. And I mean it.
A 24-year-old Qatar-based expat who reported being raped while on a business trip to Dubai has been sentenced by a court there to 16 months in jail for having extramarital sex, among other charges.
Norwegian Marte Deborah Dalelv is free on appeal, but has been under a travel ban and unable…
THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is why you stay the FUCK AWAY from the Gulf region of the Middle East. It’s a gong show, and a horror hell hole. I wish I had something more positive to say here, but I don’t. This is just another disgusting case that shows how messed up that region truly is on the issue of human rights.
“Gay Pride was not born of a need to celebrate being gay, but our right to exist without persecution. So instead of wondering why there isn’t a Straight Pride movement, be thankful you don’t need one.”—Anonymous (via bvsed-socialist)
So, two very angry young men chopped up a soldier in the streets of London yesterday .Is this disturbing? YOU BET! Not a cool thing to do. Just chilling. And the video of the one slaughterer talking about what he did to someone with a camera? Holy geez, that was brutal. That was the scariest thing I have seen, I would have to say. At least, in the context of Western culture, it was the scariest thing I have ever seen. Wow. Just scary.
Going to see the new Star Trek movie this afternoon. I’ve never been a huge trekster, but, the first now Star Trek movie was pretty decent, so my hopes are relatively high for this one. Plus, Benedict Cumberbatch is in it, and I LOVE HIM! He is so great.
I’ve been back in Canada for almost 1 year now. We had been living in Qatar for 3 years. I still don’t feel adjusted to Canada, but am grateful to not be in Qatar. I cannot begin to describe how much I loathe that country. I haven’t written much about it since I left. I feel a bit scarred from the experience, in a way. What a horrible place. Human rights do not exist there, racism is blatant and institutionalized, so many people are treated like complete and under shit by cruel and brutal people. Money has completely corrupted the country. I just could go on and on about how horrible the place was, but I barely know where to start, what to focus on, or where to stop. I feel such a complete hatred of the country.
